it doesn't really matter if it doesn't make you money right now, volunteering can help you get scholarships/bursaries, and either volunteering or working part time will achieve the most important thing which is changing your habits and acclimating you to the idea of going out and doing something productive every week

you can also look at the clubs they have available, they'll probably have one for lgbt and you might be able to just be around people you can talk to, which can make a huge difference
