I had a quick look at the actual bill text and it never mentioned jail time, it said it would constitute a misdemeanor, not to mention that this only applies to elderly in care homes and only after repeated refusal.

No, for many many reasons.

For one thing I don't think something like this should be a fucking criminal offense in the first place.

Then there's no way in hell this will actually pass.

Then even if it ever passes it will never be enforced.

Then even if it's enforced the guy, and it will be a guy, that gets charged with it will win the legal battle and the public support and we will have been demonized even more.

Don't underestimate how easy it is to demonize us. That Canadian professor borderline singlehandedly changed conversation on trans issues in Canada from extremely positive to on the fence about the whole thing. And we're already the most vulnerable LGBT group by a huge margin and one of the most vulnerable groups in general in North America and the world.
