I used a relaxer once.
Problem is. My hair is far too fragile to survive straightening for extended time.
With heat, I'd break in a few sessions. With the Brazilian method it'd just coil itself up again and be stupidly expensive. With regular chemicals it'd also break within a matter of weeks.

My hair is too fragile to be reliably straightened. I'd end up losing a good chunk of it if I did.

Braiding is an option, but that's un-washable(it stinks to wear long term) and is expensive.

My proportions are good enough (5'3'', 15in shoulder, 0.72 WHR...) that I can dress however I want and play on my androgyny enough, people still gender me female and I live in a hick backwater area so its not pity passing either.

Pre-Transition. Bad. Looks basically like limp curls.
You'd need to have a regular straighener, but either hope you have good conditioner and thick hair. Or pray to whoever you believe in that that 40$ shampoo you bought can fix your hair(I've seen this happen, it didn't work, no choice but to wear the hair naturally for her and let it regrow)

The issue is that braids are allergic AF to water. That's why you can't wash them. There are glues that can keep it together longer, but with basic braiding it broke with just exposure to a bit of water and steam. It was not a high quality one though. A good one may last a month with some water exposure. It'd cost you....around 100+ euro's though(including extentions).

Yeah. They'd have to be redone at the latest around every three months or so. Though this is far less complex to braid. So It's not awfully time consuming or hard to do. This is much cheaper to braid. At the hairdressers that do do it here they charge about 30-60 euro's for this.
So this is far easier to maintain that with extensions(as quality ones require real hair from India typically, which is not cheap)
