A "pill to suppress dysphoria" is simply a variation of nozick's experience machine. Happiness - or at least euthymia - in a pill, and it would be far from only marketed to transgenders. Oh, everyone would be on the shit, but I digress. This question has been posed endless times to trans, and it suffers all the same flaws as the original Experience Machine thought dilemma. Do you want to live in an artificial simulation where everything is happy but bullshit, or do you want to live in the real world where you have to deal with the cruel, ugly, oftentimes hateful reality but still experience your dreams and who you are as a person without suppressing every instance of pain in your life? Many on antidepressants complain about feeling emotionally blunted over time. Perhaps this is not just a cruel side effect but the reality of using an artificial method to achieve euthymia over the long-term. It just can't match up to actually being happy.

Most people would plug into choice A, because they want to be hedonists. But I believe many among them will not enjoy true hedonism when they have it as a reality. Nor will I believe that most transgenders would be happy over the long term if they "plugged in".

But dysphoria isn't all of reality. Ceasing to experience it isn't entering a simulated reality where nothing's real.

We can argue what dysphoria actually means and the philosophy of it being magically suppressed, but whatever it is and means, it's short of what the experience machine is about.

I think what anon is trying to say is the dysphoria has informed your thoughts. It is a part of you. Therefore if you were to be cleared of it, it would be a false version of you. I am (sadly) apt to agree. This malady is crippling, but it has made me the thoughtful, kind, sensitive person I am. I highly value those traits. I don't know that without the social hinderances I wouldn't have turned out more greedy, shallow, or just dumb like the less troubled have. I'm still transphobic and self-defeated but I would not take the pill.

Doubtful. Your brain prunes synapses, it doesn't gain them. As your brain prunes it will increase dysphoria.
The only way to remove dysphoria is to reverse pruning then redo it in another format. You'd end up a completely different person. That's basic neurology. Humans evolve intelligence and personality via pruning and synapses voltage weights. Either prune the synapse or raise/lower the voltage of the synapse.
