How can the gender pay gap be real if gender is a social construct?

It is.
>sex paygap*
There isn't one.
Simple as that.

The gender pay gap is real, but it's also bullshit.
Females generally do jobs worth less money.
It's really that simple, infact females on average for the equivalent jobs get paid more than males.
Also, gender isn't a social construct.

But then, why aren't there females in the highest paying jobs. You'd think they'd want to be there.

Because they don't elect them.
STEM and business-oriented degrees are mostly male, while Arts and Humanities are mostly female, and pay for jobs relating to the latter is objectively lower for everyone.
Medicine, an exception to this pattern (mostly female STEM), shows equally high (or low for Junior Doctors and early registrars) pay for both men and women.
