Definitely before. Before I began my transition I told my parents I was going to date men and my mom asked me "Can't you just see if you like women first?" and I told her "I couldn't bear to be with a woman as a guy."
I told my parents I was bi once or twice, but before I came out they thought of me as gay because I only ever dated men and I got used to that label.
I finally met a nice girl recently, we've really fallen for each other but we're both in other open relationships too.
I also went out with a guy last night.
