Well people have made that argument and it recently held up in the Seventh Circuit and gays have been ruled a quasi-suspect class by a federal appeals court but not by the Supreme Court so far which has never ruled (to my knowledge) on if Civil Rights Act covers transgender or gay people at all or even if they are a suspect class (frequent targets of illegal discrimination).

Females face similar issues. This isn't a pissing contest of who's life sucks more. It's a matter of things like sports leagues. Gender and gender presentation need to be a protected group SEPERATE for exactly the reasons you mention affecting your own life. If one doesn't confirm to the stereotypes and expectations of the sex they were born with, they face issues that those of the other sex will never experience.

Little cis-girls live totally different lives than little trans girls as children because of their SEX. While they were praised for wearing dresses and liking cute things, a trans girl would have had to hide her interests or be shunned.
