I think some of you are forgetting that "hon" doesn't just mean unpassable, it means freakish looking, like a caricature of gender stereotypes while obviously not physically looking like that gender. "Hon" implies being unpleasant to look at, while it's possible to be unpassing but still have a nice appearance, aesthetic facial structure.

I've posted this on here before, but it's cringe how trans people, whether or not they "pass" (which is a bullshit concept imo but that's a convo for another time), insist that "I'm just a normal male/female" when prodded about their gender. Oliver had a blog post doing exactly that. Just say you're trans. The whole fucking point of increasing visibility for the queer community is so we don't have to hide behind euphemistic language and masquerade as something we're not. if Oliver ever leaves his padded cell of a support network, he'll meet all kinds of other men and realize that he's not "exactly" like them. That, even though they identify as male, there will be elements of manhood that they don't remotely relate to and will frankly be glad that they don't.

I'm mtf. when I started transition, I spent a lot of time by myself, or with friends who unflinchingly confirmed my belief that I was "just another woman". then shit hit the fan and I ended up in a shelter of sorts, and surrounded by women from all walks of life. I started to realize I'm not "just" a woman. I'm something else. something in between. something that somehow embodies traits of both sexes, that has traversed the space between them. I stopped insisting that I was "just" a woman. I'm a TRANS woman. that qualifier is fucking important. no matter what word you choose to describe yourself with, people are gonna have their own baggage with it for you to deal with. In my experience, it's easier to deal with the baggage of the word "trans" as opposed to the baggage of the word "woman". I'd rather explain hons to the layman than sexual oppression and the vagina monologues.
