I had an emo/scene and sure enough I'm gay. I got into Midwest revivalist emo as an extension.

But all the other scene kids I knew became drag queens

If you were gay you were either extremely closeted or emo and out/on the process of being out. Everybody was bisexual, angsty and the more femme you were the more scene you'd be.

I was a teen back then, good times.
