Fat cells are distributed when they are created according to hormones.
But if they already exist then they are used in the location where they are, even if opposite sex hormones are now flooding the body.
So if you have a ton of fat cells on your belly, they will get smaller when you lose weight but they will balloon when you start eating again and the body will only create new fat cells in feminine locations as the older cells die off.
So it takes a while to get a new distribution and some people require liposuction to get rid of masculine belly fat.

and more to the point, miyazaki sells his world and builds it, waaay better than takahata. only yesterday/grave of the fireflies/my neighbor the yamadas are driven more by slice of life elements, and they're fucking snores.
i mean, they're still good movies. but they're just way too slow with too few real beats in the story for me to fall in love with them.

i shouldn't say it's ALWAYS the case. many of my favorite movies are a bit off the beaten path or at least not the most widely recognized film by their directors.
that all said, when it comes to fictional films, i like movies that are dramatic and have a lot of good imagery, and established story elements that go real deep and stuff. and i don't mind if they're slow. but every time i watch an -art- film they feel like they're trying to be catcher in the rye. which is great, and i can enjoy those too. but catcher in the rye isn't great expectations, you know?

I don't see this at all, I think the construction of the main character in only yesterday is far more in depth than any miyazaki character. her world is more than images and noises it's something that means something to us as an audience, a world with pig tribes and wolf tribes and humans and gods is fine as a fantasy but it's not deep it's just lore.

Criticising a film for being slow is like the most amateur thing you can say because it means you're obviously not engaging your brain. If you can't engage with films that aren't all action then that's a failure on your part, because takahata's films are seeping with ideas and feelings and emotion and beautiful cinematography and delicately crafted atmospheres. takahata bridges a gap to you in his films but you have to be willing to let that happen, I think you're just consuming film wrong if to you it's about 'da story'.
