What does /lgbt think about queerbaiting?
Where do you think it happens and why do you think cis straight girls like it so much? Is being gay a fetish for them in some way? I myself ship quite a lot of gay couples but I don't really think its because they are gay...or is it? Is there a psychology behind this? Is Johnlock and Larry Stylinson and Mark/Eduardo and all of the other legendary fangirl triggers just for publicity? Were/are any of these real? Why is queerbaiting mostly done with males and not females? Discuss.
>>
>>8524961

All these gay ship names mean nothing to mean lmao

I think it's mainly done for straight tumblr girls, they like to see hot men going at it in the same way straight men watch lesbo porn sometimes

I don't ship or consume media just bc of gay characters, most of my free time is spent on hobbies instead of watching TV
>>
>>8524961
>Is being gay a fetish for them in some way?
absolutely
>>
>>8524977
Of course that would be the healthy thing to do. I tought of it as could it be just hot for them as you said, like it is hot for straight men to watch lesbian porn. But I ship gay couples aswell and I'm a lesbian. I don't find it hot, I find it somehow...more intimate than shipping a straight relationship in a movie/band/whatever else.
>>
>>8524961
The first time I heard the term was a really good article about Sherlock and Watson and why queerbaiting is bad. I'd like to find it again.
>>
>>8524995
>I don't find it hot, I find it somehow...more intimate than shipping a straight relationship in a movie/band/whatever else.
That's interesting. I wonder why.
>>
>>8524961
waste of fkn time
>>
>>8525025
Yeah its quite discussed in the JohnLock fandoml. They have a whole theory on why it is real. And then at the end they didn't let them kiss and there wasnt an obvious Johnlock is canon moment. Which I don't really agree with, I think there was... but thats just me...

>>8525036
Is that sarcasm? Cause I really do.
>>
>>8525073
>Is that sarcasm?
No! It's one of those weird intriguing things.

The fact that you/she don't find it hot makes it less weird but still interesting.

Maybe it's something to do with a heterosexual pairing seeming more imbalanced, while two guys, even if you can't identify with them as well as girls, are still the same sex as each other instead of being two different sexes, unlike your lesbian relationships.
>>
>>8524977

women find gay man sex disgusting.
>>
>>8525130
>gay man sex
caught me off guard there to be honest
>>
>>8525138
I laughed.

Also, >>8525130 thats quite the generalisation. Most of the gay couple shippers are girls.
>>
>>8525130
Thank You.
The type of women who are into male/male gay sex primarily exist online. The majority of women irl find it gross and at the least tolerate lesbian sex -- at the least.

All of the straight women I've meet irl view the men who enegage in it as unviable. Unmasculine. Gross. Basically they loose respect for them. Even if you ID as Bi they don't care.
>>
>>8525194
Okay so than people being into gay relationships is uncommon. Why do you think it happens?
Do you think it is okay for people to queerbait?
>>
>>8525336
I mean at the end of the day it's not really hurting anyone or anything
>>
>>8525356
Some people say that it's giving a bad name to the gay community and that it's basically trying to get the best of both worlds - hetero normative fans or even homophobic fans, because the relationship is never really THERE it just looks like it + fans from the LGBT community because they feel represented.
>>
>>8525356
I mean it's wasting my fukkin time innit? if they don't even kiss don't make them seem gay, thanks
>>
>>8525396
Yeah basically what I tried saying in a more polite way.
Tho are you only watching for the gay kiss? Or for them being gay? Isn't the romance kind of seconadry to the thing?
>>
>>8524961
>What does /lgbt think about queerbaiting?
vomit inducing.

All of it is "OMG SO HOT SQUEE XDXDXD", a fire fanned by the producers, and by the public seeing homosexual undertones that really aren't there.

I'd rather watch gay4pay russian porn actors having sex on cam to feed their starving family than the outright insulting attempts at (faux) gay relationships seen in entertainment.
>>
I'm an aspiring television writer so I can't stand it. I hated how many straight teen girls shipped House/Wilson whent hat show was going on and wrote letters to the producers to get them to start going out. Just watch the fucking show, if the characters are supposed to be gay then they would be gay, not all male friends are interested in fucking each other, in fact statistically only a fraction of a percentage of them are.
>>
>>8525477
Yeah, true.
That actually made me thin on why does queerbaiting happen mostly with male couples. Does it have to do something with the ''bromance'' thing? Because you know, girls are known to be way too comfortable around each other. With kisses on cheeks, hugs, touching and stuff like that. When guys do it its gay.
Good luck with your writing by the way!
>>
>>8525447
I'm not sure what you're asking. Would I enjoy romance without any physical affection? Probably not that much.
>>
>>8525524
Thank you! I recently wrote a pilot actually, I'm going to write a few more and then try to find an agent, I know a few people who took that route

Also sidenote, I know of a few girl-girl friendships that are constantly shipped as secret lesbians. The ADA on SVU was always shipped with Olivia, also there was that show with Angie Harmon on TNT where she was the detective and the other star was the female medical examiner. They always shipped those two as a secret lesbian couple
>>
>>8525545
You said that your time would be wasted if they didn't kiss, which implies that you are giving this production time only because you want two of the characters to elope. I am asking if this is true or if it was just a hyperbole and you are actually able to enjoy a production without the romance (be it with or without physical affection) and more concentrated on the story and other important things?

>>8525546
Nice, you do that.
Yeah there definitely are some duos that are tought to be lesbian, but when talking about queerbait there is an overwhelming male precense for sure. We are talking about legendary ''Are they gay?'' characters that everyone knows about, even people that aren't in the fandoms. (e.g. Johnlock, Merlin and Arthur, Dan and Phil)
>>
>>8524995

I dunno, I don't ship anything really bc it strikes me as a little bit creepy and pathetic. That's an interesting perspective on finding it more 'intimate' tho

>>8525130
I don't know and I don't care, but I'm not sure this is true, I'm sure some do and some don't but at the end of the day it's not really important
>>
>>8525573
>You said that your time would be wasted if they didn't kiss,
meaning hinting at romance where there is none is wasting my time during that particular hinting at romance.

>which implies that you are giving this production time only because you want two of the characters to elope.
no it doesn't, I could be watching for any number of reasons. what does it matter why I watch something? is this a date?

>What does /lgbt think about queerbaiting?
IT'S FUCKING CANCER REEEEEEE

The worst is when the creators are completely aware of what they're doing and are exploiting people's hopes for monetary gain.
>>
>>8524961
>What does /lgbt think
why does it matter what trannies think about it lol
>>
>>8525925
2/3 of trannies are gay or bi

Well, honestly, arent relationships in series supposed to drag out? They get boring once the pair start dating, het or homo. It is all about tension and build up.

I do wish some would bite the bullet and give us a surpise faggit now and then
>>
>>8525796
You're still watching the show, how is your time wasted if it is filled with the actual plot and other characters. Even if the romance does not happen in the end, you didn't spend your time just looking at you ceiling while waiting for it, you were watching the movie/series.
It might be a date, who knows.

>>8525925
Kinda true.

>>8528461
Yes, they are supposed to drag out. But queerbaiting is not exactly about the dragging out process its about the dragging out and then not happening at all.
>>
9 out of 10 times what gets called queerbaiting is really just two same sex characters being close friends and fat straight girls screaming REEEEEEEEEE MUH SHIPPING when the writers don't have them fuck
>>
>>8524961
It's just stupid shit that weird tumblr legbeards do because they're fucking pathetic.
>>
>>8528935
Well, to be entirely correct, producers ''do'' it, tumblr girls just fall for it.
