I always ask what bars/clubs they like to go to and see if they mention any gay ones...
I ask if they're "seeing" anyone and see if they mention a man or a woman.
But you can usually just tell from eye contact alone without even speaking.
Gay guys will look at your crotch and will hold eye contact longer than straight guys.
Also, straight guys, a lot of times, will spit on the ground if you stare at them for too long or sometimes even ask aggressively if there's "a problem"
