If you're asking about the underlying cause of gender dysphoria, that would be neurointesexuality as a result of abnormal natal development. Yes on the personal part but the rest is a bit more complicated.

I honestly don't know how much of the social stuff is psychological. You have someone who feels like they're "supposed to be" the other gender and transitions to deal with that feeling. They also, almost always, want to live and be treated as members of that gender but I'm having a hard time believing that part is not socialized. "I feel like a man/woman->Men/Women are supposed to act/be treated in a certain way->I feel like I'm supposed to act/be treated in a certain way". Maybe without the social brainwashing trans people would be fine with just taking hormones and corrective surgery.
