I'm lucky enough to have a job that let's me live comfortably but I don't define my life worth by what I do for work. What I value is the things that don't have anything to do with work, i.e. My friends and family, how much I've traveled, etc. You're lucky enough to pursue a job you have a passion for but you're in the minority

Successful members of the media creating classes are arguably amongst the most advantage in society because they control great amounts of political capital, are typically from well off backgrounds and are often very well paid or are able to sell their work on for vast sums, the people applying for high risk jobs know and accept they have poor job prospects when they go into them, and have made the decision based off either an overriding desire to pursue that career anyway "following their dreams" so to speak, or because they genuinely think they are good enough to become successful

To an extent this is true, particularly for things such as very high end technology, consumption goods likes iphones, expensive cars and tailored clothing, where the majority of the value comes from prestige and aesthetics rather than functionality and high end cultural capital, but to a large degree it actually isn't, certain things are always required for any society to function, the degrees I pointed to as having very good job prospects regardless of present circumstances are examples of those things, people will not always value luxury goods, media or art, but there will always be a need for doctors, engineers, farmers, scientists, soldiers etc.

Teaching is one of the most secure positions. Unless you fuck up big time, you're set. The arts is a huge industry (to the tune of almost 1T in America alone). Journalism has always been rocky ground, mainly due to all the format changes, and now the format seems to largely be supported by patreon and/or platform subscriptions.

Even if you go into an inherently weak field like gender studies, unless you're an anti-social mess, you make money through presentations and working with corporations diversity groups.
