I had/have a heart condition where I was born with a hole in my heart and other tissues were merged in ways they shouldn't be. As a consequence, I would have chest pains and fluctuating energy levels as a child. I was due to have actual heart surgery in my teens, but things have more or less sorted themselves out. I still have problems though, such as fainting spells where by blood-pressure just bottoms out. I passed out once in class and this guy in the Marines had to carry me unconscious to the campus hospital. Incredibly embarrassing.

tl;dr I was in and out of hospitals growing up.

Working in a mission clinic with genuinely needy people helped me get over the phobia though. My problems seem remote compared to theirs, and I started to really regret becoming a designer when I could be doing something much more important.

I used to think I had to look like a gay stereotype but then I realized it made me look stupid so I developed my own personal style that makes me look as good as possible.
