It's hard to give you advice unless we know some more information. If you're living on base, what are the arrangements--own room, roommate, etc? Is your mail opened? Amazon is pretty discreet, there's just their logo on the outside. Why don't you try them? If you're in the US, there's plenty of stores like Pleasures where you could buy some toys.

Yes, Amazon sells some cheap knock-offs for very inexpensive prices. But they also sell the quality goods for more money. If you're just experimenting, it's good to buy the $10 item. Then if you like it and it dies, buy something better.
