I'm not sure about your wife. I only dated a guy once and we broke up before I transitioned but he's still friends with me. I doubt he's interested in me anymore though, and your wife may feel the same. You can't force people to switch sexualities.

Actually the military just passed a law where if your in and you want to transition it is fully paid for under their health insurance so it wouldn't cost me anything... I transitioned at 16 so it's a different situation but I don't think this is something you get over or live with. I think you should tell your wife and if she loves you she'll understand. I wouldn't take anything quickly or be public about it, the first step is being on hormones for a while which can be easily hidden. In terms of your face I don't think the overall structure is that bad, you'll probably need surgery on your nose brow and chin to look normal but your features are close together which is good. I think you could pass after a few years on hormones and effort. I wouldn't do anything quickly.

Transitioning is an incredibly stressful and difficult process. Your wife will probably divorce you, you might never be able to see your kids again, your parents and siblings might hate you, your friends may abandon you, it may be incredibly difficult to get a job whenever you leave the military, hormones are expensive, buying an entire new wardrobe is expensive, surgery is expensive, you're relatively old at 25 so you aren't very likely to pass well even with surgery, training voice is hard, learning makeup and female fashion is hard, etc.

But if you're legitimately trans just having estrogen in your system will make you feel so much better. Even if you fail to pass you could have significantly reduced dysphoria. If you're legitimately trans you'll probably just break down in your 40s anyway and then be transitioning under even worse circumstances, so it may be better just to suck it up now. But there is the chance, no matter how slim, that things could turn out well in many of the negative aspects I mentioned earlier.

No one else can choose this for you, you have to decide whether reduced dysphoria is worth all the potential unhappiness from what transitioning might cause. It's was a hard choice even for me, who was young and had an accepting family and circle of friends with no wife or children to worry about, I can't imagine how difficult it'll be for you. But there is indeed a choice, and I'd advise you to avoid listening to both the people telling you that you should never transition and the people telling you to just abandon all reprehension.

Maybe try getting a therapist to talk to about this? Just be aware that many therapists aren't good with dealing with trans issues so make sure you do your research.
