I never see this talked about. When I was little I used to fantasize about transforming into an animal. the idea scared me but also excited me, and sort of developed into a TF fetish. that didnt last long though, cause once puberty completed, my focus completely shifted from animals to just gender. I was massively AGP and looked up TG TF stories and comics all the time.

as the years went on, dysphoria crept up slowly and now im full trans. so im left with a chicken and egg sort of question. did I just have a TF fetish that got out of control and led me to be trans? or was I always trans and it just manifested itself through TF and then TG fetishes?

I had the exact same trajectory as you and can never decide which came first. I'm almost done with transition and I thought I would have this figured out by now, but I still have no real proof either way.

Used to be terrified of involuntary transformation in stories as a kid (think when it's like a curse or punishment for someone to have their physical identity taken from them), later on I just thought they were cool and wanted the ability to transform myself.
Then I realized I literally wanted to transform my sex.

I wanted to be a girl since age 6 or 7, I would wish almost everynight that I would wakeup as a girl. I even prayed that i would even though I wasnt religious lol.
I never got into just transforming into animals/etc, around age 14-15 i started to like tg transformation stuff. I feel like it was kind of an outlet since I hated myself, I really wanted to be a girl, and the only thing I knew about trans people is that you could get a sex change which I knew wouldnt turn me into a girl.
I dont really think it turned me trans when I wanted to be a girl since I was young.

Shame, responsibility and aggro don't explain why the fantasy isn't just being a girl from birth. It's perfectly easy to fantasize about being somebody else, no transformation involved, so why is transformation such a big thing independent of who we fantasize about being?

i've been able to recall questionable gender roles from a young age (pre puberty / drugs / internet). i would not have considered HRT if i was unable to think of feminine times in my childhood, and dysphoric behaviours.

I always thought magic was rad and I was pretty into werewolves and transforming was and still is my favourite superpower, though I never really liked stories where it was some dude turning into a girl (later on in life, never really enjoyed the porn at all) as I guess I just don't like to think about being a guy on the first place actually. Also, I never remember seeing any TF story where a dude turns into a girl and the guy actually wanted it beyond sexual purposes, and I find that really goddamn lame and I could never like any of those sorts of stories.
