What are you experiences on talking about gender to cises? Every time I do, I have to repeat everything I've said, like I'm holding their hand in the most basic of facts. It gets tiring after a while. Are trans people just more intellectually superior to cises?
>>
>>8286827
did you make that picture just for this thread? Thats so cute :)

I don't know anyone in real life that really knows about this stuff either. Except one guy that knows they get tracheal shaves and stuff. Also, i just kinda came out to my mom and she hasn't texted me back in a couple of minutes even though shes been replying almost immediately up until now.
>>
Why would cis people even care about gender?
>>
>>8286827
Attempting to explain transsexualism using the trope of "women trapped in men's bodies" is terrible approach: Not only is the explanation inaccurate but the trope is probably not genuinely comprehensible to most people, even though it enjoys some cultural currency. People may recognize the words "woman trapped in a man's body," but they arguably can’t really grasp the concept; I know I can’t really grasp it.

Almost all adults in Western countries, however, recognize the concept of sexual orientation, and many know some basic facts: Sexual orientations exist in more than one variety. Sexual orientations are not chosen and are not modifiable. Like other sexual orientations, it is something we transsexuals did not choose and something we cannot change. And we transsexuals understandably feel strong pressure to express and act on our trans orientations.
>>
We dont care about your gender delusions. I start to care about this insanity when people start demanding I think or speak in a certain way to accommodate other people. Or even start passing laws to make me speak in a certain way. Then I start caring.
>>
>>8286827
If gender has to be explained, then it's not worth explaining at all. What's easier to explain is gender dysphoria, because so many people experience/can relate to it. When a girl hates her periods, that's gender dysphoria. When a guy hates going bald, that's also gender dysphoria. The reason why they're not called gender dysphoria is because they're so common, but it would be better if we could differentiate between common gender dysphoria (the kind cis gender people get) and rare gender dysphoria (the kind trans people get). That would make it so much easier for cis gender people to understand.

>And I know I'm stretching the definition of this term, but it would make it so much easier for cis gender people to relate to.
>>
>>8287845
>it would be better if we could differentiate between common gender dysphoria (the kind cis gender people get) and rare gender dysphoria (the kind trans people get).
>cis and trans people
>discrete groups
>>
>>8287865
Discrete but relatable. How else are cis people going to understand us if we don't share a common experience? It's a stretch, sure. But it's better than saying "I have a girl brain in a guys body."
>>
I posted this in another thread but I will ask here

Can someone explain to me the concept of gender as a spectrum and what it means for trans gender people? This is not meant to offend anyone and I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

The way I thought things worked was:
>Sex is binary
>gender is binary
>if your gender is the same as your sex you are cis
>if your gender is different than your sex you are trans.

But I don't understand how that fits if gender is a spectrum. Where does the average person lay on the gender spectrum? At what point on the spectrum do you have to be to be trans and want to transition? For example, lets say you are born male but find yourself 49% male 51% female on the spectrum, does that mean you need to transition? Or do you need to get closer to 5% male and 95% female? Whats the difference between someone who is 95% male vs someone who is only say 75% male?

If gender is a spectrum and people regularly fall anywhere on the spectrum what is the point of identifying as non-binary? Wouldn't everyone be non-binary unless they are 100% one gender? Why is non-binary so much more common in women? Are women more predisposed to being non-binary or is it just female privilege allows them to openly exclaim they are non-binary where men cannot without fear of persecution and violence?

Also are non-binary people trans? Does a 30% male 70% female afab deserve the same protection as a trans person?
>>
>>8287975
You misunderstand.

>cis and trans people
>discrete groups
Choose one.

That picture has already existed. I know that as I saw it on /r/TumblrInAction, as this image is Tumblrina bullshit.

What are your experiences talking about [subject] to [uneducated group]. I have to repeat what I say multiple times to get them to understand, it's like I have to hold their hand. It gets tiring after a while. Are [subject] just more intellectually superior to [uneducated group]?
>being a mentally ill retard
That's like asking if adults are superior to first graders because they don't know their times tables yet or if nerds are superior to jocks because they don't know klingon
>>
>>8286827
Imagine if all day you obsess over gender. Its all you think about, what every action you take means to your gender. You even make things up about gender to fit your own personal narrative.

Now you start talking to someone who has never once had to think about gender. Are you really surprised that you have to repeat things and hold their hands.

You are like a little kid telling an adult about pokemon, there are 150 different gender (more being made up all the time) and the adult has no clue what the fuck you are talking about.
>>
>>8288036
Oh, are you saying they're not discrete? Sorry, I'm being slow here
>>
>>8288136
Yes, exactly. I didn't make it clear.
>>
>>8286849
>why would a via person ever think about gender

TRUEFACTS: We dont.
I have never once in my life been uncertain (or even contemplative) about by gender or sexual orientation.

Most trans people here don't believe in the spectrum or non-binary people.

Sex, your chromosomes, sex organs, etc and gender, your internal identity are binaries.

That said, how masculine/feminine is obviously a spectrum. Meaning what you like, how you act, etc. This is why "non-binary" stuff exists. Tumblrites think that being a person who likes dresses but also likes having a beard means you're "non-binary". The label exists because just calling yourself a more masculine than average girl/ more feminine than average guy doesn't let you claim as many special snowflake stuff.

They appropriate the real psychological troubles of trans people for their own political statements about gender, which is pretty horrible.

You see this a lot in TERFs too, who have taken the gender as a social construct rhetoric to it's logical conclusion: since gender is a social construct then why would trans people transition? Of course this ignores the fact that trans people have a legitimate psychological problem with our bodies. It's not just "I want to wear dresses but I'm a guy what will society think?" like the TERFs and Tumblr seem to think it is.

Correction: Technically sex isn't a binary, but a spectrum, because intersex people exist. Still, for the vast majority of people it's a binary.

Yes it's THEIR problem. Not everybody else's.

For the record dumbfuck sociologists have moved on from the idea of gender as a spectrum, they're now modeling it on a 2-axis graph. Not even kidding.

"Non-binary" just means you don't feel distinctly masculine or feminine, which just means you're immature. Even trans people feel strongly as a gender, just the opposite one.

Doubt me? Show me a single person who calls themselves "nonbinary" who doesn't have diagnosed mental disorders, isn't immature, doesn't have low self-esteem and isn't shy/fearful or loud/obnoxious/overcompensating. None of them have mature, well-adjusted personalities.

Example, a cis male calling himself nonbinary just has low self-esteem and confuses his submissiveness for femininity. Cis woman calling herself nonbinary just has low self-esteem and confuses her lack of grace and elegance for masculinity. These people confuse gender with mood.

> Why is non-binary so much more common in women?
If you asked men and women how much they feel masculine/feminine on a 1-10 scale, you'd get similar responses. Beta scruffy Xbox-males with bad posture mostly won't call themselves nonbinary, but it's the same thing.
>>
>>8290566
>"Binary" just means you feel distinctly masculine or feminine, which just means you're immature. Even cis people don't feel strongly as a gender, because gender is an artificial social stratification and in the case of trans people, turned into a fetish centered around body dysphoria.

>wahh it's the nonbinary people who are stupid, not the drug/porn addicts and people who sell out their bodies and souls for some validation
>>
>>8286827
Being trans is one of those very individual things that cis people simply cannot experience and thus can't ever truly know as intimately as trans people.
>>
>>8286827
I don't bother. It's like talking about any other extra curricular subject with a normal person. If they don't already have a little bit of knowledge in the are they will just star at you blankly. I just keep this shit to myself.
>>
>>8286827
Don't really discuss it with people irl... But people on the internet it's impossible, you'd have to switch out the kid to an angsty teenager.
>>
>>8290533
I feel that the using intersexed people as proof that sex is a spectrum is kinda flawed... I mean no harm in saying this, but intersexed peeps are by definition malformed. Nature didn't intend to make that that way, and they're almost always sterile and unable to reproduce.
>>
>>8291046
That doesn't mean it isn't a spectrum. Humans, biologically, can be something other than XX with a vagina and womb and XY with a penis and testiticles. That's all that matters. Whether it's a disorder or not is irrelevant.

Yeah because needing multiple surgeries, lifelong supplies of hormones just to have functional genitalia, life threatening compilations at worst or a shorter life span at best and the possibility of having fucked up children sure sounds like mother nature showing us the future homo species that we will evolve into.
