I realized I haven't used the term transexual in a long time, and I was talking to my roommate about it. We both understand that gender is different from sex, but can you clear up the difference between transsexual and transgender? Is transsexual bad to say? Why?
Wouldn't transgender be a tomboy or a feminine guy? And wouldn't transsexual be a man trapped in a female body or the inverse?
Pic related because it's what brought up our conversation

It's just confusing. Saying "transsexual" makes it sound like a sexuality, like if it were the equivalent of "homosexual" and "heterosexual", then it would mean that you're attracted to trans people. Which isn't what it means.
I prefer transsexual, gender is myth and it's wrong to give illusions control. Let a thousand sexes bloom and zero genders ykno.

It is a sexuality though and being attracted to trans people already has a term, GAMP.

transsexual as in changing sexual characteristics vs transgender as in putting on a dress and demanding people call you 'she' despite having a beard
What it sounds like to me is that transsexual means your sex is wrong, and transgender means your gender is wrong. So transsexual should be less problematic, and the prefered term.
But I don't really know.

>difference between transsexual and transgender
A transsexual person is someone who wishes to change their body to be different from their birth sex. A transgender person is someone who identifies as something other than their birth sex, but may or may not change their body accordingly.

Please just fuck off with your Blanchardian jargon.
Basically transsexual is every transgender person who commits to hormones, surgeries etc while "transgender" may basically encompass everything even sissy daddies in their wives's panties.
I kinda hate being thrown in the same category as special snowflakes and crossdressers so I am in favor of reclaiming the word "transsexual" tbqh.

For me I feel like gender is innate so being "transgender" is an ass-pull by fetishists. Transsexual to me means bringing your secondary sex characteristics in line with your gender. Then you have transvestites, which I think are drag queens

It should be the preferred term.
Because if you had a teleporting time machine and went all over everywhere and everywhen, sexes would remain pretty similar, gender you would notice would not.

Best description ever.

Now term transgender is fucked up - reasons are obvious, so i prefer transexual
