If tranny:
as young as possible as long as your parents aren't the super crazy types that will break your bones and throw you against the wall. Anything short of that they can do to you will be worth it in the end when they let you transition. And you need to start extremely young to build your tranny cred and wear down your parents' ignorance and obstinance. If your parents are out of their minds, don't tell them until you can support yourself, but if you can manage to buy HRT behind their backs from about the age of 12, do so. Leave them at 15 or 16 and run away if you really can't take it.

If bisexual, lesbian, or gay:
as early as you find comfortable/worth it for the amount of resistance and negativity you expect from your parents. That is, if you expect the bitching your parents will give you isn't worth it at 12 when you're not even dating, but that same level of bitching is tolerable at 15 because you want to date someone then you should come out in the latter but not the former situation. It's better to live openly emotionally speaking as young as possible. Otherwise you'll regret it and have what-ifs.
