Is your family or friends homophobic as well? That was the case with me, and its what kept me from coming out and encouraged my repression and homophobia. I eventually removed myself from there influence (moved away). It'll be hard at first and gay stuff will probably make you uncomfortable for awhile but eventually you will realize no one is judging you and you will ease up and start being yourself.
