>valuing normality so high
So according to you everyone should be the same?
It's not the average, but it's still pretty normal. Many cultures have long had some way to describe the feeling in some way or another, some cultures make room for a role for such people, others don't have a role for it but it still exists because it's something that happens fairly commonly with humans.
The ability to give people surgeries and hormones for it is a newer development (active only since roughly the 30's to my knowledge) but the state of being "transgender" (or dysphoric, or simply preferring a different gender role even without dysphoria) or some feeling/role that could be categorized as a third sex (which also often includes homosexual people) has been around since ancient times, it's just a matter of cultures that acknowledge it vs cultures that dont.
Most western cultures are new to acknowledging it, and the medicine side of it is new to everyone, so it seems weird but it's not to be quite honest with you familia

We know it's not normal, you fucking idiot. We just disagree on how to deal with it. Some people think HRT and SRS is appropriate, others think that's feeding into the mental illness and other options should be explored. No one ever claimed /lgbt/ was normal though

Other cultures have names for all kinds of disorders though, right? How does this prove anything either way?

It's not normal, but it is normal in large human populations to have 0.1-0.3% of the population be what we classify as transgender.
