The Soviet countries were strictly speaking SOCIALIST, which is a stepping stone on the path to communism. Communism doesn't have a state or leader or money, things that soviet bloc countries are. They are the communist party because they're trying to get us on the road to communism.
Non-Authoritarian Socialism has taken place in Catalonia, Free Territories of Ukraine, and today in Rojava and certain sections of Kurdistan.

Social Democracy is -entirely- different. It advocates capitalism with a welfare state. Social democrats don't get rid of capitalism, they just make it so capitalism doesn't fuck you as hard. Socialism means democratic ownership of the workplace, which isn't what happens in social democracies, they're still privately owned.

Animal farm is pro-communist but Orwell isn't particularly sympathetic to lenin, and he didn't have much interest in the ideology of trotsky but did sympathise with socialists who were enemies of the USSR.

It's kinda funny when people try and wheel out Lenin as a good leader when communists at the time of the revolution hated lenin - they thought he was too authoritarian and more importantly, that his ideology would fail to remove the problems of capitalism.

A big part of the point of Animal Farm is that while george orwell didn't necessarily that Trotsky and Lenin had bad intentions, that their ideology was doomed to create an autocratic nightmare. And the most overlooked point is that george orwell thought that leninism would inevitably lead back to capitalism as the pigs soon began to resemble the farmers.

Sweden is only slightly worse off for quality of life then switzerland, and has higher political freedom then switzerland - not to mention switzerlands Social Democratic party is in shared power, so your comparison makes no sense. And is it not true that idealistic societies work better in smaller environments? Switzerland is a much smaller country then Sweden anyway which means the fact that they have a very close quality of life is quite impressive.

Venezuela is not a social democracy nor does it practice nordic socialism - it is de facto a 1 party dictatorship. I'm not going to waste my time checking if it has a higher quality of life or political freedom then switzerland.

Belarus is a dictatorship as well but you can't exactly call it a socialist country when only 33% of the economy is nationalised.
