No. It was a necessary evil.

Before straight people could begin to see us as equal human beings, they first had to see us as more than just demented perverts. And to get them to pay attention they had to be shown how we were useful to them, and this show and others (like Queer Eye..) showed them that we could help them better themselves.
It's like getting on the good side of a bully by helping them with their homework.

Sure, the "gay friend who is good at fashion/design and loves shopping" stereotype is annoying, but it's still a FUCK TON better than the old, "gay freak is going to molest your children and sacrifice them to Satan" stereotype that existed before it.

Who cares. The show was mildly funny and the cast labeled gays in a stereotypical negative way. When the ratings went bad they added a new bf to promote the unsatisfied serial dating of the stereotypical gay man.

Maxine from Wentworth is one of the most lovable characters on the show. Granted the actor for her is not transgender (Socratis Otto) so the character does not pass, the more unfortunate end of transgenderism, which some people may or may not find relatable. That said, I wish I had a friend like Maxine. It helps that her crime to land her in the prison only makes her seem more human.

This hasn't actually been proven. Personally I think it's more likely that sexual orientation is determined during puberty by sexually charged events that imprint on a young person (noticing someone else's body in 'that way' for the first time, for example)
