I am writing two transgender characters, one for an anime and one for a war drama. Hmm. I kinda disagree with the 2nd paragraph. Experienced writers build off archetypes explicitly by projecting into them. My first 2 trad publishes were character driven "me"s almost entirely; 1 where I was a girl homeless riding trains (real experience as a guy) and the other as a rock star punk girl who doubled as a vampire (love Story core personal characterization included throughout including self realization of "lesbian status" as a character arch). Without a core archetype of girl misunderstood and girl misunderstanding / damsel archetypes I'd never have finished.

I agree with the 3rd paragraph so much... unless you want to make money - then you literally do the opposite lol but you're right it will be awful. My first year staff writing was all GARBAGE because I was forced to pander.

I don't think Disney could ever make a trans character because they'd make it (like every trans character I've ever seen in TV industry) ABOUT their trans aspect, vs someone like rukachan or whatever her name was from steins gate.
