Just from my personal experience, I would think it probably has to do with how much shit we have going on in our heads. Generally, we tend to be HYPER aware of our bodies perceived gender / sex, and given how uncomfortable being seen as our natal sex makes us. Because of this, sometimes we tend to kind of check out and retreat back into ourselves which makes us seem aloof and leaves little room for us to focus on others and interact normally.

Its funny you say not just mtfs but ftms too because I think ftms have a really high autism rate.
Maybe it isnt trans people that are autistic but autistic people that are misdiagnosed as trans? Or maybe trans people get diagnosed as autistic for being outcasts and introverted which is easy when you feel distressed with a part of yourself.
