My boyfriend and I met because of our political views, because we're "old fashioned" and for him it's not so much the beauty standards thing as it is the performance of gender roles. Modern women can be gender non-conforming in that sense, while still looking feminine and attractive. I defer to him in all things, since as you know transsexuality is often comorbid with other mental health problems. And that habit of listening to my man has gotten me out of trouble on more than one occasion. I take a lot of cues from my great grandma. She babysat me, she taught me how to cook, she gave me the model of what it means to be a woman. So far that's worked out really well for me.
