When I was a kid in the 80s/90s, even in the fucking bible belt, the school was required to teach about sex ed and about STD(I)s and HIV/AIDS. They scared the everloving shit out of us with that shit constantly. And it was on TV all the time too.. you'd be watching a fucking sitcom and suddenly a character would just drop dead of AIDS out of nowhere.
But then they finally figured out the drug cocktails and shit, so everyone stopped treating it like it was a big deal, and the generation that came after mine ended up learning about sex from internet porn.

They all made a point to say they wear condoms, and were tested recently, and expected you to be the same.
