Why are tech and media companies so accepting of queer people?

The number of tech companies and actors/actresses accepting lgbt are astonishing compared to other industries

Probably because they are new (for tech), or because new generation is taking the place

Because "wow so progressive and tolerant" is easy advertising to people who buy into the "wow so progressive and tolerant" hypes.
These companies are easily the closest to the "open minded" generation.

You didn't think it was because of some ethical reason did you?

Economics: many skilled STEM workers are queer you can either hire them or watch your competitors do it

Culture: it's no longer as culturally acceptable to discriminate against queers

History: queer people have a historical foothold in tech as well as media; there's precedents going back to the early days of both

In IT its all about how much of your life can you give to the company?
As LGBT you probably dont have a family or at least, not any children. This means you can devote more time and energy to work. Also if you feel dependent like this office is the only place that will accept you, you are more likely to put in more time and be more loyal.

Because half their employees transition. They'd have no programers without us.

Money

You all are horrible business people if you couldnt figure that out right when companies started virtue signaling. It's much more profitable to be liberal at the moment.

This. Also, geographically, tech companies are located in large cities, many of which are on the coast, and said cities tended to be extremely lgbt friendly. Secondly if you are "different" i.e. trans, gay, closeted you tend to spend a lot of time by yourself which lends well toward an affinity for computers and programming. Lastly, because the industry is already known for being extremely cush and tolerant you know as a queer person that getting a job in it will be your best bet so you naturally make it your goal.
