Maybe the writers didn't know much about Arabian culture and people are reading too much into a cartoon movie? The idea of Jasmine ramming her big brown scimitar through Alladin's boipucci while riding the magic carpet is hot but I doubt Disney was intentionally making a movie about a trans princess 25 years ago. Hell, they won't even have a non-jokey trans character now when it's in style to do so

Probably because it's in style to do so they won't. Trans people are in very weird position right now where even the left isn't 100% sure whether to support us or not and most average people still see us as nutcases or sickos. In fact the reaction against trans people was likely a fairly big contributing factor of mobilizing Trump voters.
When the situation is such that its not sure if even the left will support us few years down the line you don't exactly want to make a movie about that kind of people.

The left has been increasingly trans friendly since the 80's. It's just democrats who are not on board yet. Democrats are not even half of the US's leftist population so why would their attitudes towards trans people stop Disney from making a trans princess today? And even it were true that the majority of the left was still not mostly pro-trans then wouldn't that just be another argument against the idea that Jasmine in trans?
