It's just the muscles in your jaw flexing. I suppose that if you wanted to cause them to atrophy, you'd keep them open for as long as possible and only take in nutrients as liquids for quite a while (like, a long while)

i'm a trans man and i exercise my jaw by clenching it, and i have a decent jawline beneath the fat i'm losing, so presumably
hrt decreases it somewhat because estrogen reduces muscle mass

Yes, it can be caused by clenching too much.

The only treatment I have heard of is applying Botox to the masseter muscle.

Lasts about six months; look wherever good cosmetic injections are sold.

I mean I clench my teeth too often without even noticing so for now I'm just trying to do it way less than I normally do. I'm just not sure whether it might be the main issue with my jaw, or if I would need ffs to fix it.
