Guys, gay culture is very much a constructed thing, moreso than ethnic or religious cultures, because of its relatively recent development. Of course not all gay men have shared values, interests, traditions, etc because our unifying factor is our sexuality, but the rest of who each of us is varies as wildly as it possibly could.
So the things that are considered to be a part of "gay culture" are the things that are very specifically by/for gay people, meaning the traditional/stereotypical view of what homosexuals are and what it means to be one gets a lot of emphasis. Anything more inclusive than that would lose its status as an aspect of "gay culture" because it would be meaningful to people outside the group of "homosexual."

So there's a bit of a feedback loop going on where only super "gay" things are given significance in the larger gay community, leading to people who wish to be active members of the community to be/seem more "gay," leading to increased magnification of stereotypical traits within then community and so on because when gay culture gets less gay it ceases to be gay culture.
