To be honest idgaf if these things are the result of capitalism, quotas, political pressure, or secret bribes by the gay mafia. I'm okay with this. Normally this forced pandering bothers me but in a non story-driven game where the character's sexuality doesn't get in the way of the plot, or is never explored and contributes nothing; or isn't their only defining trait and the game is annoying as fuck about it, it really doesn't matter. I think it affects exactly what you said- showing that anyone can be gay. Even if it's not one you deem personally important or relevant, it is still powerful to lots of people, pro-gay and anti-gay alike. With the white thing I was not talking about Overwatch, just video game protagonists in general. A couple of panels in a side comic is interpreted as "diversity shoved down our throats" even though it doesn't affect the actual game. Of course I don't know who is straight or not but the reaction to Tracer shows that for a portion of the audience, they considered Tracer definitely straight... just because that's the default- which again I think speaks to your "this shows anyone can be gay" point.
