Well I'm going to assume you mean just the look and not the demeanor and/or outlook.

Let me start by saying there's a lot of goth looks. I could be here arguing with people all night about what is and what isn't GOFFICK. But the absolute worst you could do would be mallgoth, please don't do that. If it comes from Hot Topic or Spencers or NYC Tripp it's bad and cheap crap, ok? It might fool the normies but others will be shaking their heads in disapproval.

Some goths simply try to emulate the styles of their favorite goth bands. This is pretty simple, afterall how do you think the style got started in the first place? It's where tradgoth came from. You can't go wrong with fishnets and leather just make sure you wear clothes that actually suit your form don't be a blood sausage. If you're going to wear chains make it tasteful. You want to avoid fetish gear. Some goths do collars, but remember that they are not a fashion statement. I kinda recommend this route the most because you should at least appreciate some of the music. The old bands don't -have- to be your favorites but you should at least have a grasp of where all this comes from so as to not be a complete tool.

The most common and perhaps most reasonable advice is to just hit up recycled clothing stores and pick up the stuff that -you- think is a nice gothy look. It took me years to build up my wardrobe, your mileage may vary. But setting your own look/style is ultimately what you should want, even if it will still be derivative of some things, because the biggest part of pulling it all off is being comfortable and confident.

Ok? Just don't be a mallgoth and try to do a nice cateye makeup.

If definitely is a thing and one that wouldn't be too hard to accomplish. I'm pretty modest with all of my looks too. So maybe you'd want some nice black velvet pants instead of leather ones. Long black skirts that suit your bodytype. Even a pretty black blouse or sweater that wasn't meant to necessarily be "goth" can be if you do it right. Hit up those recycled clothing stores anon. Or anywhere, really. You'd be surprised how many elegant, modest things come in black in all sorts of places.

Or shop online for the really fancy stuff but I mean that's always a risk with women's clothes.
