I'm trying really hard to like this pairing but Allie is all kinds of fucked up while Chris is just a ghetto kid raised by cruelty. Hey /wcg/ I'm a gay guy considering doing a web comic about Pompeii or ancient greece tackling homosexuality and effeminacy in ancient Greece or Rome, figured I'd try to find a way to tie into some of the issues facing gay men I was thinking of making one of the main characters contract syphilis in order to draw a parraelle to HIV today.

One of the characters is going to be a prostitute so he'll obviously have issues with the local law, Senate or council members also thinking if I go Roman to add Nero or elagabalus not sure how I would implement that considering they ruled at different times.

One character is a Christian gladiator who tries to work his way up and come out of slavery while a certain twinky senators son tries to get him freed by any means necessary including murdering the ones opposed to his bethrothed. Another character is practically shota age 16 and is conscripted into Roman service or if I go with Greek history is a Spartan what age could one be conscripted? All the characters interact with one another at different. points of the story to make it appeasing to all gay men there will be bara dudes, twinks, and fems.

Question is for any anon into this portion of history is what are the best books to research and accurately convey the policies, politics, and law of the times, what was the ancient worlds true view on homosexuality?

I'm not a writer so I'm not sure if I can do this alone does anyone seem interested inthe themes presented?

Does this sound like it would be an interesting concept to explore?

Prostitution was completely legal in Ancient Rome, so he'd have to be doing something else in order to have legal troubles. Many prostitutes were also slaves, so that could have a role.

Spartans were a warrior people, so boys were taken from their families and taken in for training at the age of 7.
There were three stages of training, that was broken into ages 7-17, 17-19, and 20-29

Well that covers the shota in the Spartan arc hmm I may make him 14 or so that's when I lost my vcard so doesn't seem unusual given the circumstances.

I may do time travel to have both Greek and Roman history covered like a member of the cult of Dionysus utilizes some mystical artifact that allows the possibility. anon, being Greek, I beg you, don't even touch ancient Greece unless you have the intention to do some real, serious, time-consuming, academic-grade research on the culture. I'm so sick of Westerners fucking it up in all kinds of ways. I'd point you to sources myself, but most of what I know is knowledge I accumulated during my school years. Even if the Sacred Band seems tempting, I'd suggest going with Roman history, as I've found there is much more content available for it on the internet, and it's overall easier to sink your teeth into it. The Greeks, despite being very witty, weren't quite as entertaining as the Romans, believe me.

My advice as a fellow webcomic author: Just fucking do it, man. BUT - Make your first webcomic something SHORT. Don't take on an intense epic or complicated story to begin with, start with a short story that you can see the beginning, middle, and end of right away. Because your first hundred pages are going to SUCK. Everyone's does. Don't get discouraged during that beginning period, because you're learning, and that's important. Just think about how awesome your next 100 pages are going to be after you finish making your beginners mistakes.
