Oh, I'd wouldn't like to imply that I'm preperly meassuring anything or being imparcial here. I'm entirely talking from my perspective and my hang ups. The first thing I said was about how much of a jerk I am, she's cool.

While words are very important to express and understand (others and oneself), there are some scenarios where simplicity is the most important and others where it's only damaging.

When you want to refer to an heterogeneous group with very specific needs that are shared and should be adressed, then the most simple and encompassing term is the best. That's why transexual or, well, transgender now seems useful. It's the kind of word that gets you rights.

On the other hand when it comes to what makes you the person you are, any single word you chose is gonna be cutting off a lot of stuff. And that can be okay sometimes, like just giving it as a first step into getting to know someone. But when you go for a word that isn't commonly shared you aren't really doing that. And in the long run I think that overthinking yourself through the lense of different labels only convinces you that certain aspects of whatever you feel like are more important that others. You try to become the label you feel closer to you. And that's very unhealthy.

as I see it all labels suck.
But some of them are more useful than others. The US didn't have too much luck with that, but in my country the trans movement is pretty active politically and we got hrt and srs/ffs (to a certain degree) covered. And in the group there was a ton of people, left and right wingers, more or less conformative, young and old, middle class and lower class, and so on. The idea is finding points you share and sticking to those instead of accepting what others say.
That's also why I forget transgender exists, the term hasn't taken hold here because there are either people who respect those who have been under the transexual label for very long and (the big majority) those who just think we're freaks and should die.

But if it's all about you then you don't need a label to present yourself like a cashier's name plate. Knowing and not knowing Edie as Edie of the Neutrois, it's all the same. I still love you and all for the particular things I know of you. I'd have no opinion just hearing about your afiliation.

Besides a shitty kneejerk reaction, and that's my bad all along and I hoped to laugh at it.
