Well, I love to see old dedications in used books. If it's ultra corny you can laugh, if it's a sincere nice thing you can rage at someone just throwing that away, if it's sad you can wonder what happened to that person. It's paratext, it affects the reading experience and makes it a tiny bit unique. It's like a a special edition, there's only one of it and instead of being some ilustration or whatever it's someone else's story.

I still have saved a page from some weird book literally filled of random numbers to use in old tests or something, it was some heartfelt congratulation from a parent to their son graduating. On one hand you have the mental image of someone thinking that a book of random numbers was a great and helpful idea, then you have that it survived that long so the recepeint didn't toss it away but their kids probably did. They shat on those feelings because the book was completely pointless, pure pragmatism but really nasty.

I don't know, I really love finding dedications.
