The original series is fantastic example of precision platforming with a control scheme that gives the players all the tools they need to make any precise jumps without fail thanks to it's standard movements and grid-based level design based around a starting distance of one block (the exact length of Lara's backhop). This allowed the developers to create platforming challenges which required extreme precision while still allowing players to easily identify how to traverse the environment based on their understanding of the standard movement mechanics (e.g. One standard backhop to position, followed by a running jump to make it over a 3 block gap, then a horizontal shimmy to position Lara on the platform, etc). This lends a analytical quality to the platforming challenges in additional to reflex based skill-checks.

They offered large amounts of challenge through top-notch level design that encompassed cramped, maze-like levels to explore, platforming challenges and puzzles that provided a break from the physical challenges but still provided a firm tests of the players ability to make logical deductions (unlike nu-Raiders "put a fucking barrel on a see saw" "puzzles"). And that's not even including the secret areas located in each level for players to find which require the utmost mastery of the controls. Saying there was no challenge in the original Tomb Raider is just outing you as someone who's never even touched the games.

The original Tomb Raider was such a blockbuster successive it that it got Core Design contracted to do an immediate sequel and each successive sequel got Core Design contracted to put out another one the very next year. It only took Angel of Darkness being rushed out the door by the publishers before it was finished for the series to be put on hold for a bit. And even then, it was invigorated by Crystal Dynamics who churned out three great games before Square Enix charged the B-Team to create a “gritty” reboot.

Now compare that to Square Enix's fucking reboot where it's a half-baked gumbo of shitty ideas (stealth system that's rendered redundant by having you just slaughter everyone twenty minutes, 3rd person shooter with cover mechanics that don't challenge you because everything's got aim-assist, with open world that adds nothing because the island design doesn't reward exploration), terrible writing (reducing the character of Lara to a schizophrenic, Katniss Everdeen wannabe who cries over killing a deer, slaughters 200 or men and then has another cry because she doesn't think she can kill anyone) absolutely awful level design (Most tombs are single room “puzzles which take 20 seconds to complete) and whole host of shitty modern AAA design elements that ruin any possible challenge such as:

It not only is a shit game by itself but actively shits on an entire legacy.
But you wouldn't know about that legacy because you're a shit-eating retard who eagerly laps up cookie-cutter cinematic “no skill required!” third-person action games and asks for seconds. And that means you're underage, retarded or just plain have shit taste.
