I'm going to out myself if I write both names together. But I picked one that sounded very similar as my previous name. Both of the vowels are the same but the consonants are different. My family loved it and it made the transition more comfortable for them and for me.

Before that I experimented with names that were completely alien like jessica. I was even a snowflake about it and tried to pick names with sounds that would "resonate" with who I was. But it made things awkward for everyone.

I'm so glad that I avoided that mistake and was able to go the pragmatic route.

pro tip: Don't name yourself like you're naming your World of Warcraft character.
>>
Tranny name tier list!

God tier: The name your parents would have given you if you were born as the other sex.

Demigod tier: Your name was already unisex.

Great tier: Ask your parents what name they would like to give you. (If they have good taste.)

Still great tier: Feminine/masculine version of your current name.

Okay tier(If you have no other options): One of the top twenty popular baby names of your birth year.

Meh tier: The name of a dead relative or a name with some other special meaning to you.

What are you doing tier: Special snowflake names

Clueless hon tier(MtF only): Porn actress stage names.
>>
>>7096050
>Demigod tier: Your name was already unisex
this is how i know your deadname wasn't unisex
t. changed my 'unisex' deadname because it is connected with horrible suffering and pain, aka sex discordance
>>
Olivia, it's the same place in popularity in the year as my deadname. It's also kinda Greek sounding and I have greek heritage.
I took my Grandmother on my mother's side's maiden name since my dad hasn't been in my life since I was 12 and my mother's maiden name wasn't something I wanted to be associated with because her dad is a piece of shit.
>>
Audrey - It's close enough to Andrew without being the uncanny valley of Andrea.
>>
>>7096050
Eh. I picked a name that I connected with during my repression. It was the name of a character in a show I watched, and it also happened to be popular in my birth year. I used a feminine version of my old name as my new middle name because my old middle name was exclusively masculine. I think as long as you pick a name that some person has actually had before it's not that bad.
>>
>>7096050
AGP Tier: pick name of your high school crush who you were too afraid to ask out
>>
Lauren
i liked it
>>
>>7096111
oh jesus
>>
I'd rather not say because it's a bit distinctive. I know this is far from ideal, but my parents are Finnish immigrants to America and the male name they gave me was weird for where I live. I took the feminine form of my birth name because I couldn't find a normal-sounding English name that fit as well.
>>
Jennifer

>>7096111
Actually never met someone by that name so fuck you.

I just like how it sounds!
>>
>>7096071
>It's also kinda Greek sounding and I have greek heritage.
Irrelevant. Even if your grandfather was german your name shuldn't be sieg heil if you were born and raised outside Germany any none of your siblings or cousins have german names.

>>7096084

Snowflake
>It was the name of a character in a show I watched
Holy shit nigger
>it also happened to be popular in my birth year
Alright
>I used a feminine version of my old name as my new middle name
Should have used that as your first name. So close and yet so far.

>>7096120
Good job.
>>
My parents picked out a girl name for me in case I was born a girl. Thing is, it's kind of ugly imo, but it's ugly in a kind of hip way. What do you all think of Nora?

I feel like it could be cool/cute if you're very passing, but for even slightly hon people, that name feels like a death sentence to me
>>
>>7096156
>What do you all think of Nora?
too young for your age, nora is a name currently popular for babies and toddlers
more important than having a name that was POPULAR when you were born is having a name that was popular WHEN you were born -- a name that was #700 on the list is fine as long as it isn't much higher now
>>
>>7096050
Current name (OK Tier): Kelsey
God tier: Sarah
Still great tier: Charlotte

Idk lol. Might switch to my god tier name, I feel like it kinda fits me. Maybe "Still great tier" will be my middle name...
>>
>>7096165
>Nora
>Popular with infants now
Damn, I'm surprised honestly. So I actually would've been named Nora if testosterone hadn't fucked my shit up... but you feel that while that might be cool for an AFAB... it looks pretty bad to be a tranny with a name that is currently popular in babies?
>>
>>7096111
That's some serial killer shit.
>>
>>7096156
Are you blond and scandinavian? If yes go for it.
>>
>>7096188
>tfw AGP and trans
>tfw just want to transition and be a normal girl, but keep getting erections
>tfw I'm actually becoming Buffalo Bill
Does it help if I say I just like the name, and it is coincidence? I can almost believe it. It hurts to be this self-aware sometimes
>>
>>7096193
Dark brown hair, blue eyes, part Scandinavian

Also kinda short, lol, I mean for an AMAB. I think I would like to make Nora either my first or middle name, but it's hard to decide which. My current middle name is masculine as fuck, but I almost want to keep it, because I'm named in honor of someone who passed away...
>>
>>7095994
Sarah. 3 Lauren's in my autistic zionist class of 12. 2 Sarah's. Why wasn't I the third fucking Sarah????

Also, I am obsessed with being a ghost and disappearing. It's all I've ever wanted other than being a girl. I'm going that way too little too late.
>>
>>7096050
I picked the name of an actress that was born around the same year as me. Wat tier am I? I figured people look/behave like their names and she was the most girl next door looking. Also I really didnt knew how to pick a name I went trough a bunch untill I settled on one that felt like me.

>>7096111
If I picked that name I wouldve been God tier at the same time. I didnt pick my parents given name because it reminded me to much of her.
>>
>>7096187
yeah, having a name too young for your age looks bad -- i notice it mostly in trans guys (given i am one), a solid half of who have names nobody in their birth year shares. hell, i made that mistake myself on my middle somewhat.
though that tier list is pretty stupid, feminizing/masculinizing your deadname or keeping it when it's unisex is the lowest tier there is (or at least tied with having a name that's way too young)
>>
>>7096221
Why is feminizing/masculinizing a bad thing? I mean as long as it's a common name in the new form too, how is it bad?
>>
>>7096259
it's cliche, provides a reminder of your deadname wherever you go, associated with tackiness and hons, and if you're borderline can out you ("charlotte? okay, charlie")
>>
>>7096050
What about a name that was chosen by your significant other? I thought it felt weird to name myself, and my parents tried to pester me into choosing a name I didn't really care for, so I just let my gf choose.
>>
>>7096283
So it's mainly a problem if you have an issue with it yourself? I doubt cis people consider what hon-names are or not unless you do the stripper name thing. You say it can out you but at the same time if it sounds similar it can be safeplay for old relatives who refuse to use chosen names. Imagine if you're in a restaurant and grandma calls you Miriam instead of Charlie. Way more noticable than if she calls you Charlotte.
>>
I was gonna be a Stephanie if I was born right, but I've now got a younger cousin by that name so it'll feel weird stealing it, especially as we still see each other a lot, and there's a Stephanie at work.
Also I don't like that name.

I chose Elizabeth because it's been my favourite name for a long time. I'd always imagined I'd name my daughter Elizabeth but I'm sterile now so I guess that won't happen.
Bonus: Elizabeth has a ridiculous amount of short names, so if I don't feel like "Ellie" really fits me any more, I can go to Beth, Liz, Elle, Ella, Elsa, Eliza, Elise, Lizzy, Libby, Betty, etc etc.
>>
>>7096297
>I doubt cis people consider what hon-names are or not
cis people think all/most trans people have masculinized or feminized names, though -- i'm regularly asked if my deadname was the feminine version of my (completely unrelated) name, and the feminine version of that name is pretty rare
you can also see this in the media, sometimes to absolutely ridiculous degrees (like how the trans woman in dallas buyers club was rayon, deadname raymond)
if you're on the edge and have a name that is strongly associated with trans people, which essentially means 'a feminized/masculinized name', that works against you
>>

I don't think it will, but even if it did the good times I've had with her would be worth making a part of my identity. Is this a legit screenshot? It looks like they are making fun of us. Wasn't the new baldur's gate accused of being sjw?
>>
>>7096599
Yes legit screenshot and very demonstrative of the reasons the new BG was accused of being SJW. This whole character is basically spouting the gender theory doctrine very seriously, which contrasts with the way BG characters are usually portrayed and just becomes really annoying since you're constantly reminded, while playing the game, that people like this exist in the real world, which ruins immersion.

>>
Aylin

>>
Michael, my mother came up with it the same day I came out and I have no complaints.
>>
I'll tell you the process that went towards my name.

Back six years ago I wanted to be called Luna since I thought it was a pretty name at the time. Glad that I changed my mind on this. Luna is a very obvious tranny sounding name.

I then thought more into what my name should be. I looked up baby names searching through meanings, popularity, and origins. My birth name was very uncommon in the year I was born (1990) so I had a bit of leeway in choosing a name.

Initially I settled on Anastasia because it fit with my ethnic background/last name, similar popularity as my birth name, and liked that it meant 'Resurrection'. I could also shorten it to Ana for nicknames and everyday life. I legally changed my name to Anastasia and it's been pretty smooth sailing since then. Not too common, not the feminine version of my birth name, and not special snowflake. I like it.

My mom would've named me Marisa if I was born female.
>>
>>7096187

>>
>>7095994

>>
>>7095994
Hannah. It's what my mom claims she would have named me. It's a really common name but I really like it.
>>
>>7095994
It's Michael, I don't like how common it is but I wanted to keep my first initial and there aren't many good male names starting with M

I thought of it when I was looking at a pair of Jordans
>>
Andrea.

It's a girl name in english speaking countries but it's also a male name in my country, at least 90% of the time.
It's not too shameful/embarassing though because there there are also some females with this name here.

Am MtF, by the way.
>>
iunno, haven't picked one yet.

I specifically want to avoid special snowflake meme names like Sabrina or whatever.

Maybe Anna if I want a completely different name.

My male name starts with a B, but I can't find anything female that starts with a B that sounds nice.
>>
>>>7096050
Demigod tier: Your name was already unisex.
Yeah but if you change it to something unambiguously feminine/masculine it might make it less likely you get misgendered, right?
>>
>>7097695
If people are reading you as the wrong gender it's probably a good idea to have a unisex name to fall back on so they'll think you're a queer instead of a full blown tranny.
>>
I haven't picked one yet but I'm leaning towards Hannah because it's pretty much the best non-snowflake girl's name I can think of that sounds remotely close to my real name (Ian).
>>
Stella - its pretty so I like it
>>
i'm going w/ 'kiva'.
just like my legal name, it starts w/ a k & has 4 letters
>>
>>7095994

>>
>>7096050
>God tier: The name your parents would have given you if you were born as the other sex.
I asked my parents this. Apparently they never even considered the possibility of me being a girl.

They named me after my great-great grandfather, so I took a look at the names of ancient female relatives but they were all named things like Darthula.
>>
>>7096050

>Demigod tier: Your name was already unisex.

bad idea because people will either think you're not being serious or you'll constantly get misgendered as people will be too nervous to ask what gender you are.

Rachel
One of my closest friend in middle school used to call me "Rachul", because he likes to call people with a "ch" added en their names for some reason, and then in high school everybody started calling me this way. While playing online at USA servers people normally mistake me for a girl, because "Rachul" sounds girly (i guess), then random people started calling me rachel, it was weird but I get used to it. At some point even classmates tried to mock me calling me Rachel.
"Rachul" actually sounds that girly? I'm from a Spanish-speaking country so "Rachul" just sounds silly.

Sonce childhood, I liked the name Lucy. It's short and simple, musical with the looooo and see, and it sounds old fashioned and innocent. At the same time, it's versatile, fit for young, old, demure, sexy, peaceful girl, and action girl. As a bonus, it means light.

I chose the last name Ashworth froma one of my favorite games. In a way, I will rise from ash.

I'm keeping my middle name, Yoshi. I like it and have grown up with it. It is vaguely unisex, mostly male, a callback to my previous identity, and it's meanins are also fitting. Another short and simple name.

Lucy Yoshi Ashworth.

Anne isn't pronounced well in Spanish (as such, my parents never would have named me that)

Kayla (no, not that one tranny we all know from this board)

Picked it because it met my criteria the best. Same first letter of birth name, same number of syllables, works for someone of my background, phonetic, not too rare for someone of my birth year (as per SSA database), and not held by any close relations or exceptionally bad previous relations.

That last one killed a lot of names (like Karen, Katherine, Kari, Kristin/Kristina, etc.)

Eventually whittled down to two names; Kayla and Kara, which were liked about equally by people I asked. Kayla won because it got slightly more votes, and it was similar to the name mom would've given me (Shayla).

For middle name I just asked mom for a new one that started with the same first letter.

My new first name is one I borrowed from a co-worker about 30 years ago. She used to borrow my apartment to boff some guy over lunch, so I borrowed her name. I didn't, apparently my parents were going to name me some variant of Alex no matter what sex I was born as, so I just switched from the male one they chose to the female one they liked best.

>>7096050
so basically a combo of God, demigod, great and still great, according to this. That being said, the name that was always used for me (Alex was even on most documents, despite not being my full legal first name, cause I was so much against being gendered male my whole life, basically) while unisex, became associated with not maleness persay, but the ambiguous gender identity I spent most of my pre-transition life in. Chris.

This sounds so stupid in retrospect, but, it's a "butterfly name" - it can be short for anything, like Christian or Christine or Christopher or Christa. It's a name that can grow into anything, become anything. A name with possibilities.

And with that, it's still pretty no-nonsense. It's not weird or special snowflake, so it doesn't draw attention to me when I just want to fit in. It won't look out of place in a pile of resumes.

I like Kaylee,
I thought about Kayla for a time since I already respond to it because my birth name is that +b, which made it really confusing when working with my co-workers Kayla and Kaela. So I just swapped the vowel at the end of Kayla with an e.

well it would stop you going by the long form for sure. I've only ever seen it spelled evangeline though. eva by itself could work if you hold your head high. sounds like a name that requires you to be good with heels.

>pic unrelated just the only eva pic I have

Fucking Ruby? Really? That's not even a real name that's a stripper name.
>>
>>7121385
Heh, well spotted but I didn't just mean Sarah
>>
>>7095994
Natalie, because it has roughly the same occurrence in women as my now-second-middle-name does in men, can be shortened to "nat" easily, and isn't particularly pretty on its own. God laughed at me and named my girlfriends mom the same thing though so its awkward. Also it ups me to five names because fuck you.
>>
>>7121485
I have a set of family named Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, and Golden.
I'm in a redneck family, tho.
>>
Kylie.
I added an I in the middle
>>
>>7124298
I know a Romani family who named their kids Tequila, Prada and Dior.
>>
Sarah Jae. Most people call me Jae.

Jae being part of my old first name. Hella bitches be named Sarah. I like its cause it's unoriginal as fuck. Also Sarah was basically sterile in the Bible or something and means princess or some shit which obviously I am *scratches 5'oclock shadow

Cute

My top choice is Lily, but I'm afraid it's too much of a tranny name.

Other names in the running (all likely memes)
Jane (only one letter from my boy name)
Caroline
Violet (like this a lot but it's pretty memey)

Been told by like three different people that I seem like a Nicole, aka I seem like a bitch.

I like the name Emma but I am friends with 4, one of whom is a tranny.

Side note: my boy name (Jake) is the biggest fucking FtM meme name. I have met 4 FtM Jakes. I've met 5 FtMs.
>>
>most of the people who know I'm trans are online friends I met in an online D&D game
>they refer to me by my character's name out of character, even after the game fell apart
>actually like being called by that name but worried it'd be too snowflakey or incongruous with how I look
How bad is Kira for a tranny name?
>>
>>7126357
I've heard of a few cis girls with that name, however weebs will think it's from Death Note.
>>
>>7126357

I was going to post a creepy pic of L from death note saying I found you, but I couldn't find one that worked. At any rate I am personally not fond of that name, however if it fits you then you should probably just keep using it.

Catherine.

I asked my mom what name she would have given me had I been born female. I was worried she would make up some shit, until she told me it would have been Katherine, since she fucking loves Katherine Hepburn. I wanted to keep my initials though, so I just turned the K into a C. Catherine.

It's nice and not too terribly tranny-tier. I just pray to god nobody ever calls me Cathy.

Hazel, because in japanese it would sound the same as failure.

I mean I honestly just looked up old granny names, because my deadname was a bizzarely archaic thang.

So yahh, I also have nuts, and I know people think about it, and it makes me laugh, because I hate myself.

It also means "Commander" and has decent numerology.

Bane?

Marie. It's cute and like marcus
>>
Danielle

Name of this girl i knew in hs, and she was tall af. So kinda admired her
>>
Adriana or Anna or Ana

Ana is the best feminine name and simple.
>>
I was gonna be called Tuesday if I was a girl, after the sing Tuesdays Gone (My Dad was weird) but I thought that was too snowflakey

My birth name is unisex, but rare and Irish - so people presume I also picked it myself to be Snowflakey

I can't win, but oh well, I like my name anyway.
>>
As soon as I transition, I'll change my name to Zelda. Why?

a) I love the game
b) Robin Williams's daughter has the same name
c) It's a very nice name
d) Why the hell not
>>
>>7129196
Are you Arin from GameGrumps?
>>
>>7129212
No, but I kinda wish I was (or rather his female version)
>>
>>7128808
was it Reilly?
>>
Far from one hundred percent sure as a permanent name but I've been using Lexi for a few years now, mostly online and occasionally with my only friend. I hate my birth name with a passion, but I'm closeted for the most part and I respond to it like a dog so it's what is usually used.
>>
>>7129196
Go for it.
>>
>>7129423
Will do, thanks for encouragement, Anon.
>>
>>7128524
I really like Adriana and Adrienne
>>7128480
Another one of my favorite girl names
>>7127936
Hazel is a great name and is one of my favorite eye colors. Plus it's the name of the narrator in Saga.
>>7127274
I prefer Katherine and it's respective diminutives.
>>7126357
I don't think it's a horrible name in and of itself, and you've been given it so it must suit you in some way.
>>7126280
Jane's not bad and I like Violet and most other flower and color names
>>7124489
Great name.
>>7124298
I like Ruby, the rest don't sound like they should be first names to me.
>>7121485
Ruby isn't a particular common name, but I know of a few characters named it. One from Dark Cloud I think (I'm not gonna double check, it isn't worth the effort), and another from Supernatural
>>7122387
I like Natalie, but I've always preferred Natalya for some reason.
>>7121305
I like Eva, but I'd probably go with Eve instead if I was going with anything similar. Also, Evangeline is one hell of an obnoxious name.
>>7121299
I like Sam as long as it's a metroid reference.
>>7121236
I like Alice because of everyone's favorite monster lord, and I think it's alright name. Elodie is alright though I'd probably add an M for Melody/Melodie. Amelia is an alright name, with the diminutive being one of my favorite all time girl names, partly because of a crush I had on a girl in high school. She was from Canada and adorable as fuck, with none of the eccentricities of Canadian English, but with a very slight accent. The only names that I like more are probably Ashley and Desiree, though I don't think i could ever be a Desiree. I could be an Ashley though. I hate Lucy. Anne is alright, Annie isn't. Orianna is too much of a LoL name. To me it sounds like going by Yasuo or something, though perhaps a bit more natural in the English speaking world, though I guess I shouldn't talk, I'd kill to have been named Katarina.

>cobbled together a porn star's name by >feminizing an inventor's name

Congrats! You're now on a watch list.
>>
>>7117188
My name feels like it sticks out now that I'm serious about all this, but I'm used to ascribing it to myself so I'm not sure if I want to stop using it entirely. Maybe I'll keep it as a nickname or say it's my middle name, though my middle name is one of my favorite masculine names((Michael)Though I hate it's common feminine form, Michelle, preferring Micaela because of MGQ and because I like the sound more), and is a name I've assumed at certain times. I'm somewhat afraid I'll be the kind of person who changes their name constantly, not officially of course, kind of like Denna from the Kingkiller Chronicles, not for the same reasons perhaps but still...

No, Dairé - Pounced like Dara lol

Sierra

'cause it's cute.

That's pretty cool desu, do people struggle to pronounce it when written?

Victor. I like V names and it flows well with my last name.

Is Alex after being born Alexander okay?
>>
Avery. It's unisex so I've been able to use it right away without feeling weird and I've gotten a ton of compliment for it.
>>
>>7132347
plus naming yourself after a Neutral Milk Hotel album is pretty cool.
>>
>>7131815
no

You mean Alex as short for Alexandria, or just plain Alex?
I've heard of girls who were named Alexandria and went by Alex, but just be aware that most people will assume Alex is a guy's name until proven otherwise.
If you want your name to be Alexandria, then you could also go by Ali or Lexie for short.
And I used to know a girl named Alexa, so that could be another option for you.
