a safe majority of /pol/ are either strongly against faggots, the "gay agenda", and absolutely convinced we're all mentally ill hypersexual bugchasing perverts (by choice, of course), OR they're largely indifferent but would still rather have nothing to do with us for obvious reasons (why bother associating with a group of people you could get flak for associating with?)

i'd say only a minority are tolerant and accepting of fags, and an even smaller percentage of us are actually fags ourselves.

And /pol/ works in synergy with /lgbt/ by posting and keeping threads alive. There is also a massive overlap between pol and lgbt. They are to closest allies on 4chan, they may not think they are. But look at how they work together and make colony threads on /adv/ about how to drug down and have sex with their straight friend. Keeping each other alive and legitimate each others presence.

Wherever one of those boards go the other is sure to follow. They make their colonial threads and starts changing the entire board. R9k today is very different from what it once was.
