I got drug to one last year by my gf and her family. I'm ftm and all of them are cishet.
It was stupid but we had a nice picnic afterwards so out wasn't a total disaster I guess.

Really depends on the city. I would probably enjoy it a lot less if I was participating rather than spectating. But it's fun to go and take pictures. Usually some biker bears and scantily dressed hotties barely skirting the line of "indecent exposure."

Depends where you're from. I'm from a pretty liberal city so quite a lot of money goes into it. Here there's actually a whole bunch of other events and festivals in the month leading up to it.

In the sense the sense that it's something that can happen only because it can happen, yes. It's not really there to change anyone's perception of LGBT, it's really just a big party for us.

Hells yes. After pride is especially good for this because the pride march attracts LGBT people who don't normally go to gay/lesbian bars.

Get drunk. March down the road and wave at the crowds and cameras. See a live band at the finish line. Get more drunk. Go to after pride parties. See a drag show. Get wasted. Make out with hotties.

The big gay party part is great, but the march itself is too heavily commercialised. Shouldn't have to pay £30 just to walk down the street and wave at people.

I don't much care either way, not my scene, but I really wish they had a less ugly flag. Pride flags are all so fucking hideous.

As most people are saying here, it depends on where you are.

It just so happens to be pride month here in Uruguay, this year's theme being trans awarness and rights.

I've only been to one tho. Mostly it's a nice excuse to wander around with friends and have a chill night out. There's usually a fair (as in crafts and food stands and the such), some live bands and shows and free condoms. Guess it's a good ocassion to meet queer people if you're sociable.

Here in liberal Montevideo it's mostly a big party, booze and pot are all around (just like the rest of the year, but y'know).

I'd say give it a try and go to one yourself, it sure doesn't suit everyone in the lgbt community.

Pride Parades were an important way of showing heteros that we existed back in the day when being gay was a crime and nobody was out of the closet.

Without the Pride movement and the loudly visible lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transexuals you kids wouldn't have any rights to marry. You would be jailed for eating pussy or taking it up the ass.

Maybe they aren't as necessary anymore now that everyone and their grandmother is a out as a special snowflake otherkin on faceberg, but those of us who were alive back then when everyone was dying of aids and not even Boy George would admit that he loved the cock appreciate the people who made Pride a thing.

Maybe you hate rainbows. Nobody cares. They were chosen to represent us because they are all-inclusive. Every color exists in a rainbow. Pride is a movement for anyone who has been oppressed for being different.

Is it a great place to meet people/hook up?

Not really. Most people are with their friends/family and anyway there aren't any places to have sex when there are 100,000 people marching by (unless you live near the parade route!)
