Just coming from personal experience it feels like most things in life that are worth getting a hold on require going out and trying. My two past boyfriends came from absolutely zero effort. Both of them came about from me just doing my own thing, having a gay 'ole time just being myself. So, if someone were to ask me, I'd say to just be yourself. Do your own thing(s) and give very little attention to that as a want or need. When you're content on your own, people tend to notice that feel-good vibe and want to get in on it.

Results may vary of course.

Leave your house, work out or otherwise take care of yourself, have a social life, and go where the money is. Make yourself desirable to somebody.

There's an added demographic problem which just generally sucks for gays, because being a minority and all most guys are simply off the market. Factor in all those who are already taken, closeted, too old or young, socioeconomically distant, of just plain unattractive to you and it can be drag if you live outside a large population center.
