There wasn't anything special in it for me, I just happened to have a friend who was into it and he ended up getting me into it.
I don't even really watch much anime anymore but I do still read a ton of manga and some of it could appeal to trannies, probably even moreso than anime because none of the gender fuckery series end up getting animated.

Anime, like many other solitary hobbies like video games tend to draw in people that are isolated in society. Trannies happen to be one group of many who grow up not feeling accepted or don't fit in. On top of that, they show idealized females (and males sometimes) living happy lives so the self insert is strong. Anime also tends to have gender bending of some sort being pretty prevalent, whether it be gender changing or cross dressing, or even just really effeminate males, which is a strong draw to the trannied ones.

Trannies take female attributes and amp them up to 20. Anime does exactly this with nearly every female protagonist.

Most of them have shitty low powerlevels so it doesn't matter.
