Just have them act like actual individuals, who for some reason or another, don't succumb to peer pressure.
Now, to make this show work, we need to make them flawed, and also subvert a few tropes.
First of all, the "too pure for this world" thing...fuck that, they're staying alive.
Second, the "perfect relationship" trope, where a gay relationship is perfect, and all conflict comes from outside sources.
And on another note, make them different from each other, I mean, one guy could be a conservative, a lesbian who was scared off because of social justice culture, an eighteen year old average dude who realised it months ago, is the main character, and is just trying to figure things out, and all the awkwardness that entails...
Heck you could even put something about the gay shame movement or something, there's potential for something of quality here.

This gave me an idea; an exaggerated show about LGBT misfits. A minority within a minority, so to speak.
It could be, as anon said, about a guy who found out he's gay a few months ago, and tries going to an LGBT support group in university. Upon attending, he finds that he doesn't get along with anyone there and feels like an outcast, since he doesn't fit into the group.

After that, he find a group of LGBT kids who also don't quite fit in (none of whom are self-hating or wholly defined by their tropes):

The show could just follow their daily university struggles, covering how they deal with stress, interpersonal relationships, social life, trying to fit in, etc., but unlike pretty much every LGBT thing ever, the focus would be much less on sex and relationships and more on how characters interact with each other (there could be some dating, e.g. a story arc where our protagonist tries going out with one of the general population, but the relationship falls apart because they both want different things). It would mostly be a satirical poke at how LGBT really isn't what everyone else thinks it is (at least, not all the time).

I'm not sure if this a good idea or a terrible one...

I have become friends with a lot of guys who would otherwise be weird around gay guys. It could be because i respect the fact that they're straight and i dont need to talk about it with them cause there are plenty of other topics to talk about and thats the reason we got close.
