That is a gross exaggeration, but yes, they had a secular social democratic government that pushed education, pacifism and a reasonable level of women’s rights.

Not quite. The Western Empire’s infrastructure had fractured under barbarian invasion, but the Church was the last string holding Western Europe together, not some oppressive scheme that suppressed scientific knowledge, which actually proceeded at a surprising clip throughout the Middle Ages despite the collapsed infrastructure and impoverished economy — and did so almost entirely in monasteries or Catholic universities. While their service and sacrifices for this country are tangible and appreciated, the fact of the matter is that America does not need more people dying for her.
