Anyone here ever have a beard? Not the facial hair, but when you date someone as a cover up. It seems like it's a rare thing nowadays but I find it fascinating. How did it work? Did they know you didn't like them?

Ew, no. Facial hair is scratchy and often filthy. I would not date a guy with a beard unless he shaved it.
Also, beards are now associated with hipsters. And I hate hipsters. I eat them for fun.

Never had one, but thought about getting one in my loathsome stage, about 2+ years back. And as curious as I am about the experience possibly being fun and giggle-worthy, I don't think I'd be able to bother. It's too much of a charade for me to handle. I already felt a bit suffocated when I was fully closeted, so much so that I ended up telling my beat friend. Can't imagine going beyond silent-mode and actually making an effort to look straight, something that I am not.
Doesn't make sense to me, and to most people I'd guess, since things are getting better in general. Though, if you're part of a very conservative community and your life could be at stake somehow, then I guess that would make sense, but maybe not for long.
Also, if your beard isn't an aware and consenting one, then don't do it. You're just playing somebody, it's not fair to them.

Clean shaven is too common imho. People don't want people to have any body hair these days

Body hair is fine, if it's well-groomed and properly maintained. I prefer to leave some of mine, mostly because I can't be arsed to shave my legs.
