I'm a closeted student doing a summer internship on the opposite side of the country from where I live. If I make a grindr, can my friends from school/home who are also on grindr see it? I'm just imagining an "add by contact" button or something. My understanding is that it's purely distance, but I figured I would check. Thanks.

I'm no grindr pro but I'll just say what I know until someone gayer comes along.
So it JUST works on geolocation, nothing else. You dont have to tag profiles like facebook or something. As long as you dont run the app again when you get back home its fine (or just uninstall it). Be warned it has filters and you get to see the first 'x' of people who match it. However, even if someone put criteria to find your age range and types they have to be somewhat nearby like ten miles if you live around lots of quiet places.
TL:DR - You're good to go fgt
but why be closet when the only people who will know are gay anyway?

Thanks bud. The problem is I'm bi and nobody likes bi people.

it still confused as to why people you know knowing that youre gay is bad. I assume youre going to avoid these people anyway so appearing as just gay to others is still fine?
Also just realised im not on /adv/, /lgbt/ bit hate is a bit of a forced meme.

It's not bad, I'm just not ready to come out yet. Some day soon...
