I took antidepressants (citalopram) once and they caused memory loss and made me way dumber.
I started noticing myself bumping into things, not being able to remember names or events, and having a very difficult time responding to things. Also there was like a heavy brain fog and I don't really remember much from when I was taking it, time flied and there were times were my mind was blank. It felt like if someone had took 30 points from my IQ.
Noticed this on time and stopped taking them. Rebound was insane, soul crushing crying spells, but I just gritted my teeth through it.
The feeling of my mind being sharp again was amazing though. I still feel like I have a bit of brain damage from that but I'm almost recovered (a year later).
Now this is when you laugh, but I only took them for a week. I know you have to give them more time, like a month, but I had the gut feeling that after that month you're still as retarded or even more, you're just high and happy so you just don't give af and forget how it felt being an intelligent person in control and not a zombie npc.
It didn't help that all the success stories I read with SSRIs in the internet looked like they were written by monkeys.
And it seems that if you take it for too long, the rebound is absolutely nasty and you can have permanent damage. Just google citalopram (or whatever ssri you're taking) brain zaps or memory loss or just accounts of people trying to stop them.
Antidepressants prescription is just normal people drugging you up because they want the problem to disappear and stop bothering them.

Depression is a complex problem, if you think you can make it go away by taking a pill you're nuts. Complex problems require exhaustive solutions.
After 4 years in a crippling depression, I decided to take a different, holistic approach, and live a healthy life both in mind and body. I've recovered a lot since.
