i am in early twenties

We are australian but not from the city so my family are for the most part culturally primitive.

There have been a few things that made them suspicious, but recently one of my relatives who is about 5 years younger than me saw me at the cinema with a girl who was just a friend, and she told my family that i have a girlfriend even though i denied it too her. i even said "why would i lie about not having a girlfriend?"
